‘What is a social media manager?’ My family ask me this all the time, as they aren’t sure how I’m making money ‘taking pictures on the internet’. It can be a tricky question to answer, as my clients have different needs and different businesses. However, I want to try and bring some clarity and fill you in on how a social media manager could help you.
What is a social media manager?
So, in basic terms, my job is to manage your social media accounts and to gain more exposure and more sales for your business. This can include creating content, engaging with your followers or streamlining your brand identity. However, I can also write blog posts, work on your paid advertising strategy or create an affiliate marketing programme. The possibilities are endless but in basic terms, I’m here to cover any of your social media needs.
Why would I need a social media manager?
The first and most common answer is by lightening your workload! Social media can take a back seat when you’re juggling everything else. The problem is, it’s hard to grow your accounts when you are not putting in the necessary time and energy. That’s where I come in, to give you more consistency and to create a strategy that will build your community.
Another reason clients come to me is that they aren’t getting the results they want. It can be confusing and frustrating trying to navigate the platforms when it’s not your hobby or full-time job and even more frustrating when you’re not getting results.
How will a social media manager help my business?
To build an online community of loyal customers, you need to be consistent! Both in how often you post and the quality of your posts. Building this brand awareness is the key to becoming a trusted brand and increasing your sales.
Often, without a strategy, your message can get lost in translation and look confusing to potential customers. I often help brands to clear up their identity, social media accounts and strategy so that it’s clear who they are and what they’re selling.
Is a social media manager expensive?
Most people outsource their social media content because they cannot afford to hire someone full time, especially if they’re a small business. The beauty of working with a freelancer is that you can build a package that works for your budget while having the flexibility to change your plan if you need to.
You can hire them to take over as much or as little of your social media account as you like. For example, I’ve been hired to manage someones entire account, from creating content to scheduling and the marketing strategy. However, for another brand, I purely interact and engage with their followers. In your consultation, we’ll be able to look at your account, what’s working and what needs to change so that I can create a plan that works for you.
What experience do you have to be a social media manager?
I’ve been working in social media for over five years now, starting as an intern and working my way up. My first job was writing blog posts for a fashion brand before becoming a digital assistant. Not long after I landed a job managing the social strategy for a global beauty brand. I loved my job but I also had a serious passion for small businesses, which is how Rarebit Social was born!
How do I hire a social media manager?
The first step is to look for someone that aligns with your brand, most social media managers will have a niche or particular style. It’s worth finding someone who’s own Instagram account appeals to you, who you trust and that you can see yourself working with.
The next step is to book a consultation to work out what your business needs. Once that’s done, they’ll be able to put together your strategy and get to work growing your accounts!
